Disco and murder in Prom Night

Jamie Lee Curtis in her Horror Prime

Four kids playing hide and seek in an abandoned house. When a young girl, Robin, wants to join the game, the four friends starts to harass her which ends up with the girl backing out of a window and falls to her ultimate demise. The group keeps the event secret and a well known felon gets arrested for Robin’s death.

Six years later the group is getting ready for prom and Robin’s sister, Kim (scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis) and brother as well. Unaware that their sister’s killers are amongst them the siblings are now friends with the four, and Kim, is even dating one of them..

On the night of the prom the four receive mysterious phone calls from someone.. and after that other strange events occur, and the man, initially arrested for Robin’s murder, has escaped from prison.. making his way to the teenagers.

So, now the prom is on like jam on peanut butter, and so is the sex, and now the first victim, Kelly, gets her throat sliced. Continues with one of the couples being stabbed and burned to death and when the alleged murderer of Robin is finally caught, all is good.. or so they think.

Even though it’s a horror film, the first murder doesn’t occur until 1:03 and there’s never much blood.. and as you know I am a big fan of blood and stuff so that’s quite disappointing.. Until! the bad boy’s head rolls in on stage, which is just what the film needed. So, The suspense is there, with flashing lights and disco music in the background obviously.

The best scene in the whole film is when Kim and Nick do an EPIC dance routine in true Saturday night fever style to show Nick’s ex-girlfriend and her hoodlum date that they’re a cooler couple, unbelievably cheesy and hilarious.

Ok, 80s slasher horror with Jamie Lee Curtis, knowing that you could easily work out how everything, but who cares. It is silly and not very good but entertaining, delightfully 80s and obviously a classic.
