Supernatural Season 3
For fans of Buffy/Angel the ending of those shows left a hole in the viewing schedule almost as big as the one where Sunnydale used to be. No more impossibly sexy demon hunters with monsters of the week to overcome, pithy one-liners and good season-long story arcs. For vampires-with-a-heart fans there is Blood Ties or the recently cancelled Moonlight – or the Blade TV series if you were really jonesing. But like pig's blood for a vamp, they didn't really satisfy. (Although Buffy season eight is available as a Whedon penned comicAlthough it didn't have the same magic that a Whedon show has, it was a lot more grown up. It was certainly darker than Angel, the rapport between with two brothers was believable – and with more than its share of one-liners, and, I am reliably informed, the guys are hot.
Season two ended with a bang to match Buffy's Hellmouth escapades, only this time the gates were left open and Dean had to make a sacrifice to save his brother. So with demons on the loose and time running out for both brothers they have a lot of cleaning up to do. Luckily, and not just rabbit-foot luck, they get plenty of help from the other hunters that keep popping up, plus some other unexpected help from a Buffy wannabe from the other side.
It is compulsive viewing, which can be a bit of a trap when you have the whole series to hand, and you can easily find that you have watched all three episodes on the disc before you know what's happened. So if you intend to watch it you either need enough willpower to press the stop button, or an evening when you have no other plans.
Supernatural Season 3 is out on August 25 from Warner Home Video and is available from major retailers including Amazon
