THE 48HR FLASH FICTION CHALLENGE 2014

DID YOU REGISTER RECENTLY - OUR SERVED CRASHED AND ATE YOUR DETAILS>

PLEASE RECOMPLETE THE FORM BELOW - APOLOGIES!!!

SCI-FI-LONDON and UrbanFantasist.com are setting you an exciting challenge at the same time as our 48hr Film Making challenge - a 48 hour flash fiction competition on a sci-fi or fantasy theme.

Each year we run a 48hr film challenge, where we give the teams a TITLE, line of DIALOGUE and a few other things to base their film on. We want you to write some literature with the same details.

How it will work

  • Entry is free and open to anyone who writes or would like to dip a toe in the literary water.
  • The story must be between 1000 and 1500 words (excluding title and author’s name and contact details).
  • Entrants can take part by registering below and receiving the elements to base their story on by SMS mesage and Email.

On Saturday 12 April (sometime between 10am -1pm) we will send you:

  • The TITLE for your story
  • A piece of DIALOGUE that must be incorporated somewhere into the story
  • An optional SCIENCE THEME (selected for us by readers of New Scientist Magazine) for the story.

    Easy...half your work is done!

You then have 48 hours to write your story. The deadline for submission is Monday 14th April at 1:00pm via a PDF sent as an email attachment to
48hrflash@sci-fi-london.com

Judging

The Flash Fiction submissions will then be judged by a panel comprising Author Simon Guerrier, SCI-FI-LONDON's literary editor Robert Grant, and Charles Christian, SF&F writer and founder of UrbanFantasist.com - the webzine for SF&F fans.

The winner

The winner will be announced on the SCI-FI-LONDON on Thursday 1st May, and will receive a sumptuous SCI-FI-LONDON goodie bag. The winning story will also be published on the SCI-FI-LONDON and UrbanFantastist.com websites (and be tweeted and promoted by both sites through all the usual social media).

But also...

We have teamed up this year with LATE NIGHT TALES to provide a unique prize for one of the entries in this year’s competition.

This year’s chosen Flash Fiction story will receive the honour of being narrated by Warwick Davis (Star Wars VI, Harry Potter, Willow, Life’s Too Short) to conclude a future edition of Late Night Tales (artist to be announced), distributed worldwide on vinyl, CD, download and streaming. (bloody vinyl...awesome right!)

Late Night Tales invites the world’s best artists to delve deep into their music collections to create the ultimate "late night” selection, featuring expertly curated mixes by Bonobo, MGMT, Friendly Fires, The Flaming Lips, Metronomy, Groove Armada, The Cinematic Orchestra, Four Tet, Belle & Sebastian, Jamiroquai, Arctic Monkeys and more top musical artists.

Each offering concludes with a spoken word story; previously narrated by the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Will Self, Brian Blessed and Patrick Moore.

This is your chance to join in the fun, be published and win a prize! Have a look at UrbanFantasist.com for recently published examples of flash fiction in their regular TFi Flash Fiction section.

To enter, complete the details below and get ready to write.

By entering you agree to abide by the rules of the competition, which can be found here.
